The Water Team helps get clean water to those who don’t have it.

homepage_pic_2014Our little team of just over 100 people has now provided 229 water wells to the world! Each village is trained to care for their water wells so all the wells are working and water is flowing – giving the gift of life, health, energy and the opportunity for a better future.

Most of our water projects are through Lifewater Canada.

Lifewater Canada has been selected for the third consecutive year by Charity Intelligence, an independent organization that assesses the performance of more than 800 Canadian charities, as one of the nation’s top 10 for the impact it achieves for donors. Based on these rankings, MoneySense magazine is calling us a “Top 2022 Charity”.

Lifewater has told us that right now, they have more villages waiting for safe water. They encourage us to “give a little and change a lot: every $1 gives a child safe water for a year!

#229 – Angwan Wangibi Na Gari, Nigeria

Angwan Wangibi Na Gari, Nigeria
Getting safe drinking water.
Completed: March 28th, 2022

Angwan Wangibi is a rural area occupied by the Eggon people of Nigeria in Nasarawa state. To meet its water needs, everyone depended on a single well and a nearby stream.

Isaac Daudu, the Mai Angwan (community leader), narrated the severity of the water scarcity in the community. He said: “Over 100 households were dependent on this one well. After two or three people fetched water from the well, it would dry up. Others had to wait about two hours for the well to recharge again.”

Meanwhile, the water from the village stream is dirty and unsafe.

Lifewater’s mission at Angwan Wangibi was to restore hope and show everyone love without a reason. By drilling three water wells, including this one, we showed the power of love exemplified by Jesus Christ.

#226 – Kurame Angwan Hakima, Nigeria

Kurame Angwan Hakima, Nigeria
Getting safe drinking water.
Completed: March 22nd, 2022

Kurame is a town in Nigeria’s Nasarawa State about 35 kilometers southeast of the capital of Abuja. The increasing number of people with no access to safe water has been a concern for all residents.

Their water sources were always hand-dug wells and streams, neither of which provide safe water. Also, although these tainted sources produce water during rainy seasons, climate change has lengthened the dry seasons when the wells and streams have little water to offer. The growing population further challenges the community’s overstretched water resources.

The number of people in Kurame who must visit the hospital with water-borne diseases has been increasing, a community elder told Lifewater’s drilling and repair team when we arrived in the town. Thanks to our donors, the community now has four new wells — including this one — positioned strategically for everyone’s easy access.

Local women danced and chanted their local songs as we installed the new wells. The community is grateful to Lifewater Canada and our donors for quenching their thirst for water.

#225 – Kwali Join Hands Mission & Camp Ground, Nigeria

Nigeria
Replacing their worn-out pump and repairing their well.
Completed: February 22nd, 2022

Kwali Mission/CampGround is a new mission house and campground in Nigeria’s Kwali Area Council. The missionaries and their families living there are very isolated as they share the gospel of Jesus Christ in the surrounding area. They often struggled to meet their daily needs, including the need for water.

The generosity of our donors enabled Lifewater Canada to drill a well that is exhibiting the love of Christ by providing consistently safe and accessible water to everyone in Kwali Mission/CampGround and also the surrounding area.

#224 – Roguwa Gidan Tanko, Nigeria

Roguwa Gidan Tanko, Nigeria
Replacing their worn-out pump and repairing their well.
Completed: January 24th, 2022

Roguwa is a village in central Nigeria. It is a suburb of Abuja, the capital city. Residents have been dependant for their water on open hand-dug wells, rainwater, and vendors. None of these sources is safe and all are inadequate for the growing population in Roguwa.

Affording the cost of buying water is a problem for many families in Roguwa. Added to that is the financial burden of health care brought by the rising wave of waterborne diseases from the water. This is a painful reality for a community where most people live on less than $1 a day.

Generous donors enabled Lifewater Canada to drill a well in Roguwa that is providing safe water to everyone, and eliminating the need for people to rely on dirty, expensive alternatives.

Maraban Shamaki Angwan Eggon, Nigeria
Replacing their worn-out pump and repairing their well.
Completed: January 22nd, 2022

Maraban Shamaki is in Nigeria’s Nasarawa State. This community on the outskirts of the Federal Capital Territory but is strangely cut off from many basic social amenities, including safe water.

Residents had to cross a busy highway, or depend on a seasonal water hole, for their drinking, cooking, and carrying out other domestic chores. They were always at the mercy of diarrhea, cholera, and all manner of other water-borne diseases that sometimes result in death.

Lifewater Canada donors funded the replacement of hand-powered pumps on three broken-down wells, including this one, and the drilling of one new well.

Now, the people of Maraban Shamaki have access to safe water with ease. They are living with good health, and children are attending school regularly because they are healthy and don’t need to spend lots of time each day fetching water.
