Completed: April 9th, 2021

On our visit to Kiyi village in Kuje Area Council, village was devastated and in fear of the recent incident of kidnapping of 12 villagers in the dead of the night by kidnappers. The village head recounted that they were still making effort to pay the ransom to get their loved ones back.

Kiyi community has 4 wells with three of them needing repairs. At one of the well sites, we met Aisha and Balira, trying to fetch water from an old Indian Mark 2 pump, we stood there as they had to pump more than 50 strokes before water comes out. Another location visited in the village was an abandoned well, which they said has been down for more than 72 weeks, also, was a well that was sinking to the ground. Hafsat, one of the resident close to the well, said, they had to que up for hours to buy water from an overhead tank or they walk miles to fetch from the next available well in the village.

After we carried out the repairs, the community expressed joy with our coming to help them ease the pain of water. There were also that, their loved ones were also rescued from the kidnappers.
