#141 – Petti 2, Nigeria

Petti 2, Nigeria
Replacement of worn-out pump and repairing of well.
Completed: January 24th, 2021

The first well in this village was drilled over 3 years ago with the plan to install a submersible pump, build an overhead tank and create a number of points from which water could be collected. The important project was left abandoned until now. The community approached us and we told them we can only provide assistance in form of a hand pump. They gladly accepted and went ahead to offer to provide, sand, gravel and cement for the work. For a community where people wait around the existing wells for close to 4 hours just collect one basin of water, this was like a miracle. The villagers showed us areas where those who cannot stand the long queues at the only available and working hand pump scoop water from the ground. Even in those places, about 8-10 basins may be lined up.
A second well had also broken-down years back. The Indian Mark II had failed and the concrete pad destroyed. The leaders of the community were fully involved in the project and their level of appreciation was quite high.
